Sarah Sanders Defends Trump’s Feud: Corker is ‘Not Entitled to His Own Facts’
Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a press conference on Tuesday, and she faced a multitude of questions about the continued kerfuffle between President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and Republican Senator Bob Corker.
The briefing began with a question from ABC’s Jon Karl about why Trump challenged Tillerson to an IQ test. Trump did this during an interview where he offered a new reaction to reports that the secretary of state called him a “moron.”
“The President certainly never implied that the secretary of state was not incredibly intelligent,” Sanders said. “He made a joke, nothing more than that. He has full confidence in the secretary of state.”
From there, Sanders was asked whether the Trump Administration was concerned about the implications of the president’s feud with Corker. Sanders said Corker is “not entitled to his own facts” before launching into her own laundry list of “facts” about how Trump’s policy moves are supposedly stabilizing the planet and putting America’s enemies on notice.
“Senator Corker may have an opinion but the facts don’t lie,” said Sanders. “The president has been successful on this front.”
Sanders also faced questions about whether Trump wants Corker to resign, a desire expressed by former White House adviser Steve Bannon. The press secretary went on to bash Congress and refute the notion that Trump is alienating himself with his attacks against members of his own party.
