The New York Times dropped a report on Saturday morning that revealed President Donald Trump‘s legal team sent a letter to Robert Mueller arguing he cannot obstruct justice in the Russia probe because his presidential authority allows him authority over all federal investigations.
The confidential letter, reported exclusively by the Times, also argued Trump cannot be compelled by a subpoena to testify, and that the Constitution gives him the power to, “if he wished, terminate the inquiry, or even exercise his power to pardon.”
Then, well after the Times published its report on the letter, Fox announced it had breaking news.
“Fox News has obtained exclusively a letter Trump’s legal team sent to Special Counsel Robert Mueller in January outlining many reasons why the president should not sit down for an interview with Mueller,” Fox News host Laura Ingle announced.
Many commentators on Twitter pointed out that the news was not exactly exclusive to the network.
