Former FBI Agent Horrified That Lakewood Church Shooter Brought 7-Year-Old To Targeted Attack: ‘What Was The Purpose of That?’

A former FBI special agent called the suspected shooter at the Lakewood megachurch in Houston, TX, “evil” for taking a seven-year-old child to the church she planned to attack.

“What’s very disheartening, and that we all agree, is that there’s a child involved in this,” Fox News contributor and former FBI Special Agent Nicole Parker said on Monday. “This individual, this woman — this individual who has used multiple aliases, both male and female, but is identified as a woman — took a seven-year-old child with her to the church…what was the purpose of that? Was that part of the grievance?

“This is a very evil individual who was willing to take a child,” she continued. “Was that child going to be used as a hostage, be used as a human shield? Does she think, ‘Look, if I have this child no-one’s gonna touch me and law enforcement won’t get rid of me?’ Well, she was wrong. Very sadly and unfortunately, now there’s is a seven-year-old individual shot in the head, who is fighting for their life.”

Police said 36-year old Genesee Moreno was wearing a trench coat and carrying an AR-15 rifle with the word “Palestine” on the barrel, when she and the child walked into the church and began firing in a hallway around 1:55 p.m. Sunday. Two officers shot exchanged gunfire, killing Moreno, and striking the child in the head. The child remained in critical condition Monday.

The shooting occurred between church services, so parishioners were not widely present, but police said a 57-year old man was also hit and survived.

Police also found a .22 caliber rifle, but said it was not fired during the attack. They said they believed this was a “lone wolf” situation and not part of a larger threat to the community.

Police said Moreno has a mental health history and has used many aliases in the past, including those of men. They said they have “uncovered antisemitic writings” in their investigation and believed Moreno may have been in the midst of a dispute with her ex-husband, whose family members are Jewish.

Parker said she was sure the megachurch, run by Joel Osteen, was specifically targeted by the shooter.

“This was definitely targeted,” Parker said. “From what I understand, there’s search warrants being executed at the home up in Conroe, TX. That’s not exactly near that church, so that church was absolutely targeted. It seats around 16,000 to 17,000 individuals…we all know who Joel Osteen is; he’s world famous.”
