Jesse Watters Says Trump Paying off Stormy Daniels Was a No-Brainer: ‘That’s Common Sense’
Jesse Watters said it was simply “common sense” for Donald Trump to arrange a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. In doing so, the Fox News host casually dismissed the former president’s contention that he did not facilitate the payment.
Trump is on trial in New York on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to Daniels, alleged mistress Karen McDougal, and a doorman. The ex-president has pleaded not guilty and denies having affairs with Daniels and McDougal.
The court adjourned on Wednesday a few hours after the jury began its deliberations in the case. Trump emerged from the courtroom and briefly slammed the charges, as he has done virtually every day of the trial. Shortly after, the hosts of The Five on Fox News discussed the day’s developments.
Watters said that despite the prosecution’s insistence that Trump made the payments to ward off potential negative press ahead of the 2016 election, the former president was motivated primarily out of business considerations.
“This whole case is a joke,” he said. “If you’re running a media conglomerate, if you’re running a hotel chain, running these companies all over the world, in Muslim countries, in Europe and Asia, anything that’s bad news for you personally is bad for the brand. And you’re a billionaire and you have this coming out in the middle of nowhere? Forget about protecting your family. That’s the obvious concern. Secondary concern is the business. You can’t have some porn star extorting you. A hundred and thirty grand is nothing for Donald Trump. You pay that. It’s nuisance. Make it go away. That’s common sense.”
