James Comey’s Book Hits No. 1 on Amazon After Trump’s Scathing Tweets, And It’s Not Even Published

President Donald Trump is truly making book sales great again.

The commander in chief sent yet another one of his least favorite people soaring to the top of the best sellers lists overnight — all thanks to his incessant tweeting.

Former FBI Director James Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadershipclimbed from No. 15 on Amazon’s best sellers list Saturday to the No. 1 spot by Sunday afternoon. The book will detail Comey’s time in office, as well as his interactions with the president, ultimately culminating with his historic firing amid an ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. All orders for the book are currently pre-sale, since it’s set for release on April 17.

In other words, Comey is already a bestselling author, and his book hasn’t even been published yet.

The former FBI director may have been fired by Trump, but he certainly has the president to thank for the reignited attention. Trump continued his attacks on Comey in a series of scathing tweets over the weekend, alleging he was aware of wrongdoings ex-Deputy Director Andrew McCabe committed before being fired from the agency on Friday.

Trump referred to him as “lying James Comey” in one tweet and “Sanctimonious James Comey” in another, adding that he “made McCabe look like a choirboy.”

“He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!” Trump wrote.

The tweets, which also denounced Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation against him, provided the perfect opportunity for Comey to tease his book, which he took full advantage of.

“Mr. President, the American people will hear my story very soon,” Comey responded. “They can judge for themselves who is honorable and who is not.”

The tweet went viral, receiving over 100,000 retweets and nearly 400,000 likes in 24 hours. And the book went flying off the digital shelves, before it even made it to print.

The president had the same effect on Michael Wolff’s book, titled Fire and Fury, detailing the author’s time and unprecedented access to the West Wing during the initial era of the Trump administration. That book was an enormous commercial success, and remained on Amazon’s No. 1 spot for several weeks.

“Michael Wolff is a total loser who made up stories in order to sell this really boring and untruthful book,” Trump tweeted in early January after the book’s release. “He used Sloppy Steve Bannon, who cried when he got fired and begged for his job. Now Sloppy Steve has been dumped like a dog by almost everyone. Too bad!”

Too bad, indeed. Comey and his publisher are likely very disappointed right now.
