John Fetterman Says Unlike Most Dems, ‘I’m Not Going to Hate Everything President Trump Does’
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said he is going to continue being an “honest Democrat” who is willing to work with President Donald Trump if it means better results for his constituents — even if that is an unpopular position to take inside his own party right now.
Fetterman, during an appearance on Saturday in America on Fox News on Saturday, told host Kayleigh McEnany there are a handful of Democrats like him who are going to “vote for our country” in “certain circumstances,” rather than automatically vote along party lines. That has helped him be successful in a purple state, he said, a moment after McEnany showed a recent Axios story that said Fetterman had a +11 favorability rating in Pennsylvania.
“I’m not going to hate everything that President Trump does,” he continued. “There’s things I’m going to agree with and things I’m going to disagree on. And I represent Pennsylvania, and I just don’t represent Democrats in Pennsylvania, I represent 13 million people, and there is a lot of Republican and independents as well, too.”
He pointed to a few topics where he thinks he has been out-of-step with Democrats recently, including being Pro-Israel following the Hamas terrorist attack on Oct. 7, 2023, and wanting to see a tougher border policy.
Fetterman also reiterated he would like to “nuke the filibuster” and make it where it is “almost impossible” to shut the federal government down again.
His appearance on Fox News comes just a few days after he told Sean Hannity he disagreed with many Democrats and felt it was gross to brand Republicans — and in particular, Trump — as racists or Nazis.
The senator also criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris during his Hannity interview on Wednesday, saying Harris “lost the plot” when she dubbed Trump a “fascist” right before the 2024 election.
“If you call the president or someone like a fascist, you are effectively calling the people who are going to vote for him [the same thing] and then they must be fascist too… or they support fascism and those things. And that is just not true,” Fetterman said.
