‘Act of Revenge’: Top Democrats Slam Trump for Yanking Harris Secret Service Protection

Democrats are blasting President Donald Trump’s decision to yank former Vice President Kamala Harris’s extended Secret Service protection as “vindictive” and an “act of revenge.”
The former vice president lost her statutory six months of protection in July, but former President Joe Biden had quietly signed an order granting her another year of coverage, according to exclusive reporting from CNN.
Trump abruptly scrapped that directive on Thursday, just weeks before Harris launches a nationwide book tour to promote a memoir about her 2024 presidential run, entitled 107 Days.
News of the move was met with fierce backlash from Democrats and the president’s most vocal critics.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass accused Trump of deliberately endangering Harris.
“This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more. This puts the former vice president in danger and I look forward to working with the governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles,” she told CNN.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office was also briefed on the sudden change. His spokesperson, Bob Salladay, condemned the decision in a statement to the network: “The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses.”
Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) warned, “there’s no agenda more important to Donald Trump than retribution”:
Biden’s former National Women’s Engagement Director Rhonda Elaine Foxx, who also led Women for Harris, ripped Trump as “petty” and “dangerous”:
Harris’s adviser Kirsten Allen struck a more measured tone, thanking the Secret Service for its “professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”
Without federal protection, Harris will not only lose 24/7 agents but also the Service’s intelligence and threat monitoring. Her aides now face the costly challenge of replicating that coverage just as she steps back into the spotlight.
