Bill Maher Roasts Poll Saying Democrats Wouldn’t Fight Russian Invasion of US — And Asks ‘Which Side’ Republicans Would Fight For

Comic and pundit Bill Maher mocked Democrats over a poll that showed most of them wouldn’t stay and fight a Russian invasion of the U.S. — then slammed Republicans by asking “which side” they’d fight for in that situation.

A recent Quinnipiac poll found that while stories of Ukrainian grit and heroism dominated the news in the United States, only one group of voters said they would be unwilling to stay and fight for their country if the United States were to be invaded in the same way Ukraine is:

As the world witnesses what is happening to Ukraine, Americans were asked what they would do if they were in the same position as Ukrainians are now: stay and fight or leave the country? A majority (55 percent) say they would stay and fight, while 38 percent say they would leave the country. Republicans say 68 – 25 percent and independents say 57 – 36 percent they would stay and fight, while Democrats say 52 – 40 percent they would leave the country.

On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the host used a portion of his opening monologue to roast Democrats over the poll — and then lampooned Tucker Carlson’s propagandizing by asking “which side” the majority of Republicans would take in a Russia-U.S. war:

Listen to this, they did a poll, they found out, because of what’s going on in Ukraine, they asked a poll here in America, if America was invaded by Russia, how many would stand and fight? You know, how many Americans said they would? Fifty-five percent. That’s pretty scary.

Democrats, only 40 percent of Democrats said they would stay here and fight. The other 60 percent said they would if they could do it by Zoom.

And listen to this. But, 40 percent of Democrats are saying, right. Sixty-eight percent of Republicans said they would stay and fight, but most of them watch Tucker Carlson. So the question is, which side?
