CNN’s Jim Acosta Zings Trump For Torpedoing Immigration Deal While Claiming There’s An ‘Invasion’ At Border

CNN anchor Jim Acosta roasted ex-President Donald Trump for sabotaging an immigration deal, all while ranting about a dangerous “invasion” of immigrants crossing the border.

Trump’s ranting about immigrants has included several bouts of quoting Hitler and other dehumanizing Nazi rhetoric, and a chunk in his victory speeches demonizing an immigrant “invasion” as well. But Trump has also pushed Republicans to scuttle a border deal in order to deny President Joe Biden a political victory. To all appearances, he has succeeded.

Acosta discussed the issue on live-streaming channel CNN Max Friday morning with CNN analysts Alice Stewart and Maria Cardona, during which he called out the contradiction.

“I’m old enough to remember when Trump said there was an invasion happening at the border,” Acosta said:

You know, what– doesn’t, you know, calling senators and having your allies pressure members of Congress to not sign on to a border deal kind of fly in the face of saying that there’s a crisis down on the border? There’s an invasion, let’s impeach the Homeland Security Secretary and so on. If you’re let’s not do anything until, you know, Trump gets into office in January of next year.

ALICE STEWART: Yeah, you’re absolutely right. Look, there’s a crisis at the border. We’re seeing, record numbers of immigrants coming into this country. We have Democrat governors and mayors in many cities that are taking the overflow of these immigrants. Saying enough is enough.

We need to make change. So we have people on both sides in the Senate willing to work on a deal, and Democrats are actually making some compromise with regard to asylum and other issues.

And look, Donald Trump says, border deal now would be a gift for for Democrats. A border deal now would be a gift for the American people. A border deal now would be way for him to say, look, I have been committed to securing the border and I’m going to do everything I can to support that right now.

And the fact that he is, standing in the way of this for his own political gain, in the off chance he even is president is wrong.

And look, I can see the Democrats right now already running ads on this. They’re going to campaign on this. We gave the Republicans ample opportunity to pass up border security and to make meaningful change with regard to immigration, and they can’t take yes for an answer.

Democrats are are compromising. Republicans are putting fly in the ointment because Donald Trump doesn’t want to give, Joe Biden something to to show a success. But this is a success for both sides. And Democrats have every right to say Donald Trump. If you’re want to really, seriously do something about the crisis at the border, now is your time.
