CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Calls BS On Trump Over ‘Revenge’ On Comey, Enemies List
CNN anchor and chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins called BS on President Donald Trump’s claim he’s not seeking “revenge” on former FBI Director James Comey, and there is no enemies “list.”
After Trump publicly pressured Attorney General Pam Bondi to go after a list of enemies in a DM-style Truth Social post and again in remarks to reporters, the Comey indictment dropped on Thursday, with a defiant Comey pledging to fight it out in court.
In a gaggle with reporters Friday, Trump denied the indictment was about revenge, and claimed he has no enemies list — but predicted more indictments.
On Friday night’s edition of CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins, the anchor opened her show by challenging those claims by citing Trump’s own words and actions contradicting them:
KAITLAN COLLINS: One down, but how many more to go? That is the question tonight after President Trump, fresh off achieving his years long goal of seeing James Comey indicted, signaled that his retribution campaign may just be getting started.
REPORTER: Now that James Comey has been indicted, who is the next president on your list in this retribution?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: It’s not a list, but I think there’ll be others.
I mean, they’re corrupt. These were corrupt, radical left Democrats. Because Comey essentially was a… He was worse than a Democrat. I would say the Democrats are better than Comey.
But no, they’ll be other. Look, it was… That’s my opinion. They weaponized… The Justice Department, like nobody in history, what they’ve done is terrible.
And so I would… I hope they’re… Frankly, I hope there are other things. You can’t let this happen to a country.
KAITLAN COLLINS: Trump denying there is a list while confirming to CNN’s Kevin Liptak that he certainly has others in mind.
What stood out to me during that exchange is how undeterred the president seems by concerns that he is doing exactly what he’s criticizing, weaponizing the Justice Department.
Despite questions about the strength of the case against James Comey, the president today portrayed it as a slam dunk.
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Well, we’ll see, but it’s a pretty easy case, because, look, he lied. You saw my truth today. He lied. Yes. He didn’t say, well, in my opinion, he didn’t do a lot of things that maybe he shouldn’t, but I don’t think he could, because he lied! That was a very important question that he was there. And he wanted to be specific, but he didn…
It’s about justice. It’s not revenge. It’s also about the fact that you can’t let this go on. They are sick, radical left people, and they can’t get away with it.
KAITLAN COLLINS: Trump insisting it’s not about revenge, but just look at what his own words say and how they appear to belie that assertion. What he said today, just alone. Look at this. “James dirty cop Comey was a destroyer of lives.”.
Trump says “He knew exactly what he was saying and that it was a very serious and far-reaching lie for which a very big price must be paid.”
