Connecticut Democrat Busted For Stealing From Target

Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan (D), a Connecticut state representative, was arrested on Monday, June 23, for allegedly stealing from a Target in Bethel, Connecticut.

The Bethel Police Department told NBC CT that this isn’t the first time it has happened. Police said the Target employees had identified Allie-Brennan from “prior unreported larcenies.”

Police arrested Allie-Brennan after officers reviewed security footage showing him attempting to leave the store without paying for $26.69 worth of merchandise.

Allie-Brennan said in a recent statement that the two items weren’t scanned in his armload of other items while self-checking out at Target.

“I was in a rush to bring items to my grandmother in the hospital, the store didn’t have bags, and I was juggling multiple purchases,” he said. “While I do not have a record, I take full responsibility for the error and am working through the legal processes to resolve the matter quickly and respectfully.”

“I respect the law and Target’s right to enforce their loss prevention policy, and I remain committed to serving my community with transparency and integrity,” Allie-Brennan said in the statement.

Police said Allie-Brennan was issued a misdemeanor summons for sixth-degree larceny and is scheduled to appear in court on July 1.

According to CT MirrorAllie-Brennan did not respond to a request for comment beyond his previous statement.
