DeSantis Falsely Claims He Didn’t Hear From Biden After Hurricane Helene

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) strangely claimed to reporters that he never heard from then-President Joe Biden after Hurricane Helene last year, but the two did indeed speak after the storm blasted the Sunshine State.

Speaking alongside President Donald Trump from “Alligator Alcatraz” on Tuesday, DeSantis praised the commander in chief for wanting to be “helpful for governors,” while attacking the previous administration.

“We did Hurricane Helene last year — you didn’t hear from the president at the time then,” DeSantis said. “And then, but with President Trump, we know immediately you just make the phone call.”

It was a stark contrast to Gov. DeSantis’ remarks at the time.

“I’m in contact with the President of the United States,” DeSantis said on Oct. 1. “I’m in contact with the FEMA director, I’m obviously managing all of our state agencies, we’re supporting all our local government.”

At the same time, Biden confirmed the two had spoken, even offering praise for the governor for “an incredible job” with the Helene recovery effort.

“I talked to him again yesterday and I said, ‘No, you’re doing a great job. It’s being, all being done well. We thank you for it.’ Every governor, every governor from Florida to North Carolina, has been fully cooperative and supportive and acknowledged what this team is doing. And they’re doing an incredible job. We’ve got a lot more to do.”

DeSantis notably snubbed then-vice president and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, following the hurricane, with the governor refusing to take her calls or hold meetings, NBC News reported.

DeSantis’ communications office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mediaite.
