Fox News Anchor Reveals His Party ID After Joe Manchin Presses Him Live on Air

Former Sen. Joe Roberts (I-WV) pressed Fox News anchor John Roberts Thursday on his party affiliation, which Roberts disclosed live on air.

The two were discussing the political divide in the country as America gets ready to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

“We are having a hard time right now,” Manchin said. “We’re getting too divided. John, we’ve got to bring it back. It’s about the country, not about me, not about the Democrats and Republicans, not about President [Donald] Trump or anybody else. It’s about this country and the freedom and liberty this country has given us.”

“We have a divide that’s as tall as the Rocky Mountains and only getting bigger,” Roberts declared toward the end of the interview.

“If I can say one thing, John: The people in this country are not as divided as the government here makes you think,” Manchin said. “This is a business, a duopoly. It’s a business, the both business models are, divide and conquer, divide and conquer. Hate the other side. The other side is the enemy. It’s not that way in downtown America. It’s not that way on the streets of America. People want us to come together. If that wasn’t the case you wouldn’t have about 50% of people saying ‘I don’t want to belong to either party. I’m an independent.’ So, John, set yourself free and become an independent.”

“Washington has been a zero-sum game for a long time,” Roberts said before disclosing, “I have been an independent for as long as I can remember.”

In 2024, Manchin switched from being a lifelong Democrat to a registered independent, just months before he planned to end his term in the U.S. Senate.

“Today, our national politics are broken and neither party is willing to compromise to find common ground,” Manchin said in a statement at the time. “To stay true to myself and remain committed to put country before party, I have decided to register as an independent with no party affiliation and continue to fight for America’s sensible majority.”
