Fox News’ Eric Shawn Reveals Cancer Diagnosis Stemming From 9/11 Exposure
Fox News correspondent Eric Shawn revealed on the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that he has been diagnosed with cancer stemming from his coverage of that tragic event.
While reporting from Manhattan on 9/11 memorial events on Thursday, Shawn revealed that he is one of thousands that is dealing with health issues stemming from exposure to toxic dust on 9/11. On Fox & Friends, Brian Kilmeade noted that a firefighter friend of his has been dealing with issues with his lungs ever since 9/11, and Shawn revealed he was diagnosed with cancer this year.
Shawn said:
I had bronchitis. Also cancer from the exposure. That was diagnosed this year. And that’s been increased greatly, you know, as we have just reported, because of the time that goes by, the decades continue, that’s when it starts to — we start to see it. Back then I remember thinking maybe 20, 30 years later I will get something. Well, here it is 24 years, but, you know, I think of everyone who suffered far greater than I and those in our country who have sacrificed in the ultimate sacrifice, those who served in our armed forces who went to Afghanistan as well as everyone
here. We are all in this together. I mean, we are all in this together.
Shawn noted that while 9/11 deaths stand around 3,000, that number has greatly increased simply from exposure for people who were present that day. According to the CDC, more than 40,000 have reported having cancers stemming from 9/11.
“While 2,977 people were murdered here that day, the number who have died from 9/11-related illnesses has increased from the toxic dust that was released,” Shawn reported.
Shawn’s colleagues were unaware of the diagnosis and shocked to hear the news, offering support and prayers.
“I am so sorry. I didn’t realize,” Ainsley Earhardt said.
“Yeah, I didn’t know that Eric,” Kilmeade said.
“That was news to us. Praying for you man” Lawrence Jones added.
