Fox News Tops Broadcast Networks in Primetime for Three Straight Weeks

Fox News extended its winning streak over the broadcast outlets last week to three consecutive weeks of weekday primetime domination – topping all of cable news and the major broadcast networks.
Fox averaged 2.4 million primetime viewers from July 7 to the 13th, which surpassed NBC’s 2.2 million, CBS’s 2 million, and ABC’s 2 million average viewers for the week. Fox has now reigned supreme in all of television since Memorial Day with an average of 2.98 million total weekday primetime viewers – ABC is a close second with 2.87 million average viewers.
The last time Fox topped all broadcast television for three straight weeks was during the intense news cycles of 2020, in which many viewers were glued to their television during the pandemic and ahead of the presidential election.
June saw broadcast TV hit a new low in general. Nielsen’s Gauge rankings, which track television use by platform, found that broadcast dipped below 20 percent of total television viewing for the first time in the month, cratering to 18.5 percent – down from 20.1 in May. As cable cutting and the rise of streaming has continued to draw viewers away from cable, broadcast TV has lost its role at the center of the U.S. entertainment industry.
Fox’s The Five continues to dominate all of cable news, bringing in a whopping 3.5 million average viewers last week. Jesse Watters Primetime brought in 3.4 million viewers, which was strong enough to top even CBS’s Big Brother on Thursday night, which scored 3.2 million viewers. For the week, Fox landed 97 of the top 100 telecasts on cable television, even with coverage of Wimbledon as competition.
