Freed Hostage Tells CNN Hamas Treated Him ‘Better’ After Trump Election: ‘They Understood He Wants to Bring the Hostages Back Home’

A free Israeli hostage recently told CNN that his Hamas captives treated him noticeably better when the new broke that Donald Trump won the election.

CNN anchor Bianna Golodryga on Wednesday posted clips of her sit-down interview with Omer Shem Tov, who spent 505 days in captivity before being freed. Shem Tov lost more than 50 pounds during that time as he claimed he was intentionally starved and forced to survive on “one biscuit and salty water a day.”

During the interview, Shem Tov also explained why members of Hamas were allegedly rooting for Kamala Harris to win the presidency:

SHEM TOV: Yes, it’s him. He got me out. He got the hostages out. Before we we felt like nothing is happening; I remember there, for me there, ever since he came into into the road, they were very scared of him. They wanted–

GOLODRYGA: Who?

SHEM TOV: Terrorists.

GOLODRYGA: Were afraid of Trump?

SHEM TOV: Yeah. They wanted Kamala to be chosen.

GOLODRYGA: You talked politics with them?

SHEM TOV: Yeah, yeah, yeah. They wanted Kamala to be elected; but as soon as Donald Trump was elected, they understood that he wants to bring the hostages back home. So, immediately the way they treated me changed. So if it’s the amount of food — I can say this, that when Trump became president, the way they treated us changed — for me, personally. This is what I felt.

GOLODRYGA: You think because they anticipated that a deal would come soon?

SHEM TOV: Yeah.

GOLODRYGA: And that’s when they started giving you more food?

SHEM TOV: Exactly. More food, treated me better,, stopped cursing me, stopped spitting on me.
