Britain’s freshly minted ambassador to Washington, Lord Peter Mandelson, lost it after a Financial Times journalist grilled him on his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, has been a shadow over his appointment, with an internal JPMorgan report noting Epstein’s “particularly close relationship” with both Prince Andrew and Mandelson. Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, who introduced the two men, is currently serving time for trafficking underage girls for Epstein.
The Financial Times reported on Thursday that their reporter had approached Mandelson on a train ride and asked him about the past meeting.
“I regret ever meeting him or being introduced to him by his partner Ghislaine Maxwell. I regret even more the hurt he caused to many young women,” Mandelson said.
But when pressed further, the ambassador snapped: “I’m not going to go into this. It’s an FT obsession and frankly you can all fuck off. OK?”
Mandelson has done an abrupt about-face on his once scathing opinion of President Donald Trump, whom he previously labeled a “danger to the world.” Now, with Trump greenlighting his ambassadorial appointment, Mandelson told Fox News his past remarks were “ill-judged and wrong.” He told the network that he has “fresh respect” for the president.
