‘I’m Not Gonna Let You Continue to Say That!’ Stephanopoulos Cuts Off Trump Lawyer After He Suggests Biden Was in Cahoots With DA Bragg

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos cut off an attorney for former President Donald Trump after the lawyer suggested President Joe Biden was involved with the New York criminal case against his political rival.

In a contentious exchange on Sunday’s This Week, Trump attorney Will Scharf argued the New York criminal charges against Trump are an example of President Biden and his political allies weaponizing the justice system against his 2024 opponent.

“This case in New York? It was called the zombie case,” Scharf said. “It sat and sat and sat. It could have been brought at any point after 2020. And then suddenly, when President Trump announced his campaign for president, it was dusted off, rushed in front of a grand jury and then rushed into court. You want to talk about the politicization of the legal system? I mean, this is exhibit A.”

Stephanopoulos pointed out that the New York case was brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and that the Department of Justice did not have jurisdiction.

“Of course, the attorney general in Manhattan has nothing to do with the Department of Justice,” Stephanopoulos said.

“I vehemently disagree that the district attorney in New York was not politically motivated here,” Scharf replied. “And I vehemently disagree that President Biden and his political allies aren’t up to their necks in this prosecution.”

The ABC News anchor cut off the former president’s attorney.

“There’s no evidence of that!” Stephanopoulos said. “Sir, I’m not gonna let you continue to say that! There’s just zero evidence of that!”

Scharf countered by referencing Bragg deputy Matthew Colangelo — who was a senior official in the Biden Justice Department before leaving to work for the Manhattan DA’s office in December 2022.

“Colangelo was the number three official in the Biden Department of Justice who suddenly disappears and shows up as an assistant district attorney right as Trump’s case in New York starts to proceed,” Scharf said.

Stephanoupoulos shook his head and said, “This has nothing to do with President Biden.”

“I completely disagree.”
