Secretary of State Marco Rubio is now as unpopular as Elon Musk, according to a new Gallup poll showing a sharp decline in favorability for key Trumpworld figures as Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) soars alongside Pope Leo XIV as most popular newsmakers.
Rubio’s image has collapsed since January, dropping 24 points in net favorability, from +8 to -16, putting him at the same level as Musk, whose own plunge mirrors the fallout from his recent policy feuds with President Donald Trump.
Rubio, once a cautiously admired Republican stalwart, is now viewed favorably by just 31% of Americans, while 47% see him unfavorably. The nosedive comes as he takes on the dual role of overseeing both the State Department and National Security Council.
While Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr. have also seen their standing deteriorate, Rubio and Musk’s 24-point slides are by far the most severe.
In stark contrast, Sanders remains one of the few political figures to emerge with positive momentum. The progressive senator boasts a +11 net favorability, bolstered by strong support from Democrats and a positive tilt among independents.
At the top of the heap, however, sits Pope Leo, whose +46 net rating makes him the most positively viewed figure in the survey and the only one viewed favorably by all major political groups.
