The New Hampshire Libertarian Party — long held captive by a group of pugilistic radicals — has weighed in on the ongoing debate over Nikki Haley’s comments on the Civil War by comparing Abraham Lincoln to Osama Bin Laden.
On Wednesday, Haley told a crowd that she thought “the cause of the Civil War was basically how government was gonna run. The freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do,” and did not mention slavery during a brief back-and-forth with an audience member.
She has since clarified that “of course the Civil War was about slavery,” but has nevertheless been pilloried by her rivals in the GOP presidential field, who have castigated her as a “slippery, slick politician,” and cited it as evidence that she’s not “ready for primetime.”
In New Hampshire, the Libertarian Party weighed in on the controversy from another angle by posting a graphic comparing President Abraham Lincoln and terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden with the caption, “oh we’re talking about the Civil War today?”
The graphic itself asserted that Lincoln had “murdered” more Americans than Bin Laden and caused much more economic damage than Bin Laden, as well as asserted that Lincoln’s goal of “expand[ing] DC control of Southern lands” was less noble than Bin Laden’s objective of “regain[ing] Arab control of land from DC imperialism.”

The state party has long been criticized for its outlandish, offensive posts on social media. In the past, it’s celebrated the anniversary of the late Senator John McCain’s death by posting a picture of his daughter crying over his casket with the caption “Happy Holidays,” opined that a Black Democrat from Ohio that she should be “picking crops for free,” and reacted to reports that there was a mass shooter on the Capitol ground by declaring that it hoped “innocent civilians as well as Thomas Massie don’t get shot.”
