Police found explosives in the car of the man police say shot former President Donald Trump in the ear and also killed a rally-goer on Saturday night during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal, citing local law enforcement officials, reported Sunday morning that police officials had confirmed that a search was conducted on a car owned by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks late Saturday night.

The search reportedly resulted in officers locating several devices, although no further details about what bomb technicians discovered were released.

After clearing the vehicle – which was found near the site of Saturday’s Trump rally – police searched the home of Crooks, who died after allegedly opening fire on Trump when a Secret Service sniper shot him dead on a rooftop that he used as a nest.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting and Crooks reportedly used a rifle that had been purchased by his father.

The suspect registered as a Republican when he turned 18 but had previously donated to the progressive political action committee ActBlue, Reuters reported.

Trump was grazed in the ear and treated for the wound at an area medical facility before he traveled to his home in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Saturday night.

The identity of the person who was killed at the rally had not yet been released as of Sunday morning. Two other people who were at the campaign event were also wounded.

The Secret Service is currently under scrutiny for the security lapse that allowed the gunman to find a line of sight within 130 yards of Trump, but the agency’s leadership has not yet responded to the criticism.

Agents immediately surrounded Trump after shots were fired on Saturday and quickly removed him from the venue.

Trump will travel to Milwaukee on Monday as scheduled for the first day of the Republican National Convention, which will conclude on Thursday evening.
