‘The Mother of All Gaffes’: George W. Bush Gets Totally Filleted for All-Time Blunder Condemning the ‘Brutal Invasion of Iraq’

 

Former President George W. Bush had an all-timer of a foot-in-mouth moment during a speech in Dallas Wednesday — and observers of all stripes are calling him out for it.

During remarks at the George W. Bush Institute, the former president was attempting to denounce Russia’s Vladimir Putin for his invasion of Ukraine. But instead, he suffered a freudian slip for the ages.

“The decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq,” Bush said.

The comment hung out there in the air for a brief moment which felt like an eternity, before Bush corrected himself and added, “I mean, of Ukraine.”

There were nervous chuckles in the audience as the former president chalked up the faux pas to his age.

“Seventy-five,” Bush said simply, to laughter.

Others, though, received the comment far less charitably than the live audience — as Bush’s invasion of Iraq led to the deaths of thousands of American service members, and hundreds of thousands overall. After the gaffe, he was called out by observers on all sides:
