The View’s Joy Behar Says She ‘Agrees with Trump’ on Going After Comey
The View’s Joy Behar said Thursday that she agrees with Donald Trump’s decision to go after former FBI Director James Comey because of what Comey “did to Hillary” before the 2016 presidential election.
Right before the 2016 presidential elections, Comey released a letter on Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email server during her time as Secretary of State. Many on the left blamed Comey’s move for leading to Clinton’s loss and Trump’s victory as the 45th president of the United States.
At Trump’s directive, the Justice Department is looking into whether Comey lied to Congress during his 2020 testimony regarding the “Russiagate” investigation. Prosecutors are planning to ask a grand jury to indict Comey before the statute of limitations of five years runs out on Sept. 30.
Erik Siebert, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, recently resigned after refusing to prosecute another of Trump’s political enemies, New York Attorney General Letitia James. Siebert was replaced by Lindsey Halligan, one of Trump’s former personal attorneys.
The View’s legal expert, Sunny Hostin, noted that Halligan was an insurance lawyer who never prosecuted a case in her 10-year career.
“By contrast, Eric Siebert…prosecuted 675 federal criminal cases — and so, that is what we’re dealing with. We’re dealing with sort of a kangaroo court system at this point. I don’t have the faith — as a former federal prosecutor it gives me no pleasure to say this — but I do not have faith in the office of the Eastern District under someone who has no prosecutorial experience.”
Behar interjected, “You know, I don’t like Comey. I agree with Trump on this one.”
Behar’s statement drew a stunned reaction from the rest of the co-hosts. Below is the full exchange:
SARA HAINES: You don’t like Comey because of what he —
BEHAR: I don’t like what he did to Hillary.
HAINES: Therefore, he should be prosecuted?
BEHAR: No, no. I’m just saying. But I rarely have something I agree with Trump on. So, this is one thing.
GOLDBERG: But you don’t like him?
HOSTIN: But Joy, some would say he was doing his job, James Comey.
BEHAR: What? At the last minute to bring out this baloney, email baloney thing?
HOSTIN: Some would say he was doing his job.
ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: I won’t dredge up ancient history.
BEHAR: Do you agree with me?
GRIFFIN: I think it should have been investigated. I think the timing was out of step with tradition within the Department of Justice. They generally don’t do that a month out.
