Trump Rages At Fox News Courthouse Reporter For Not Reporting Criminal Trial Is ‘No Crime Witch Hunt’
Former President Donald Trump ranted at Fox News correspondent Eric Shawn and recommended he study another Fox personality to learn more about the “No Crime Witch Hunt” trial for 34 crimes.
Monday brought more fireworks in the Stormy Daniels hush money-election interference trial, as Judge Juan Merchan issued a contempt ruling that included a strong threat of jail time and faced Trump down in court.
After that, the trial resumed with comparatively dry testimony from witnesses like former Trump Organization comptroller Jeffrey McConney, who offered several key points of testimony for the prosecution’s case.
Through it all, Shawn was on hand to deliver live reports outside the courthouse — which seems to have angered Trump. Just before midnight on Monday, Trump posted a rant urging Shawn to catch up on the written wisdom of Fox News legal analyst Greg Jarrett:
Eric Shawn of FoxNews has to spend a little time reading Gregg Jarrett concerning the “no crime” Witch Hunt taking place in Downtown Manhattan. Virtually every legal scholar and expert said that I did nothing wrong, the case should not have been brought. Election Interference!
It’s unclear what Shawn’s offense was, beyond not declaring that there was “no crime” and the trial is a “Witch Hunt” — although he also did not say there WAS a crime either.
Shawn did a live hit on Monday afternoon’s edition of Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered, during which he reported on Judge Merchan’s threat to jail Trump, and laid out the details of McConney’s testimony — as well as the defense’s take:
ERIC SHAWN: I mean, from the Oval Office to a jail cell. Could that be former President Trump’s fate if he continues to violate judge gag orders?
DONALD TRUMP: The judge is totally conflicted. And you want to take a look at it. And I’m not supposed to be talking about it, but I am allowed to say that the judge has a conflict that, like nobody’s ever had before, you had to take a look at it. He’s taken away my constitutional right to speak.
ERIC SHAWN: The defendant continues to rail against these proceedings and the gag order, even though the former president– it potentially could cost him his freedom. Judge Merchan ruled that Trump’s, quote, “vitriolic and dangerous rhetoric has to stop,” telling the former president directly. Quote, “the last thing I want to consider is jail. You are the former president and possibly the next president. The magnitude of that decision is not lost on me. Your continued willful violation of the court’s order constitutes a direct attack on the rule of law, and will not be allowed to continue in court.”.
Former Trump Organization Comptroller Jeff Mcconney testified how the company reimbursed Michael Cohen for the money he laid out to pay off Stormy Daniels, but was unaware about any type of deal, even though an email approved the payment.
He said he was told that it was for legal services, and he was not aware that any of Cohen’s payments were either doubled to pay for taxes, as prosecutors claim, or what the purpose of that money actually was.
Since he was told it was to cover the legal services, he did not know anything about any type of deal or agreement with Stormy Daniels. He also said some of those checks went, were drawn from the former president’s personal checking account.
But it’s important to note that so far, he has not tied in the president at all in any way, directly with knowing these payments were part of a deal to cover up Stormy Daniels, just that they were marked, as the defense says, as legal expenses.
Later, on America Reports, Shawn delivered a similar report — focused more on McConney’s testimony — in which he noted “we’ve heard a lot about payments and invoices and reimbursement to Michael Cohen. But so far, no evidence or testimony directly tying the former president into that alleged scheme to pay off Stormy Daniels.”
