Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson claimed that the Murdoch family — the owners of a vast media empire that includes Fox, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Post — asked him to run against Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination after firing him from his gig at Fox.

“The Murdochs really hate Trump. Like, there’s no one who hates Trump more than the Murdochs,” Carlson told his guest Clayton Morris on the latest episode of the former’s show.

“I got fired in April of 2023. In May of 2023, they asked me to run for president against Trump and said they would back me. Obviously I’m not gonna be running for any offi-, you know, I would never get elected any, plus I like Trump!” said Carlson. “The funny thing is, I actually genuinely, I get frustrated, I’m frustrated now-”

“So hold on, I’m sorry,” interjected Morris. “You just said that, and people by, I mean, they asked you to run for president against Trump? The Murdochs?”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah!” replied Carlson. “Lachlan Murdoch said, ‘You should run for p-, we’ll back you, the whole thing.'”

“The whole Fox News apparatus?” inquired Morris.

“And not just Fox,” said Carlson, “but, you know, Wall Street Journal– ”

“All of their papers, everything?” suggested Morris.

“Absolutely, yeah, we’ll back you,” affirmed Carlson.

“And that came right from Lachlan?” asked Morris, taking on the role of interviewer briefly.

“I was already gone, they’d already canceled my show. I was still under contract, but they canceled my show. ‘You should run, we support you, you should run,'” recalled Carlson.

“We want to stop Trump,”  mused Morris,

“Yeah, well, he was running,” observed Carlson.
