WATCH: Crowd Boos When Trump Envoy Praises Netanyahu

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff got an unexpected “booing” that threw him off guard when he spoke at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv on Saturday in anticipation of the hostage release from Hamas custody.

As Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump stood at the dais behind him, Witkoff addressed the crowd.

“Tonight, we celebrate something extraordinary, a moment that many thought was impossible. Yet, here we stand, living proof that when courage meets conviction, miracles can happen. A peace born not out of politics, but out of courage; The courage of those who refuse to give up hope,” he said as the crowd cheered.

Witkoff continued:

First and foremost, I want to honor the people of Israel. Your strength, your resilience, your unwavering spirit through unimaginable pain and loss. You have, you have carried the weight of hope on your shoulders for the entire world. You’ve prayed, you’ve persevered, and you’ve shown the world that peace is not weakness, it is the highest form of strength.

Through heartbreak and fear, you never let go of the faith. Your courage and endurance inspired the world, and it was your belief, joined with the bold leadership of my friend and president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, that made this peace possible.

This moment was made through the tireless dedication of leaders who would not rest until the world saw what could be achieved. One of them standing right here with me, Jared Kushner.

The crowd cheered both President Trump and Kushner when they were mentioned.

As Witkoff started to say, “To Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu —,” the crowd burst into boos.

“Oh…okay, okay,” Witkoff said while holding up his hand to try and quiet the crowd.

Witkoff tried again, this time, stumbling over Netanyahu’s name.

“To Prime Minister Benjamin, Netan — Okay, let me let me just finish my thought,” Witkoff pleaded as the booing continued and Kushner gave a nervous laugh behind him.

“I…Okay…let me just finish my thought. I was, I was, I was in the trenches…guys? Let me just finish my thought. I was in the trenches with the prime minister. Believe me, he was a very important part here,” Witkoff managed as Kushner nodded his head.
