‘We Are the Bad Guys!’ Elie Mystal Tells Joy Reid that the World Should Impose Sanctions on America

Elie Mystal, the justice correspondent for The Nation and frequent MSNBC guest, called on the world to impose sanctions on the United States during a rant that saw him declare that “we are the bad guys” on an episode of ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid’s show that dropped on Wednesday.

“Joy, I’ve argued — and I don’t say this lightly — but our country needs to be sanctioned. We are the bad guys on the world stage. We are a menace to not only free people everywhere, but we are a menace to peaceful people everywhere at this point,” declared Mystal in a discussion about President Donald Trump’s decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“And I’m not even gonna say that we’ve only been a menace for the past three or four months, right?” continued the far-left commentator. “Like when does the international community decide that enough is enough? I know we’re rich. I know we’ve got a lot of money. I know that people want to buy things from our country because we’re rich, or want to sell things to our country because we are rich. But at some point the international community has to stand up to us because we are a bad guy on the world stage, right? And so we should be sanctioned. We should be sectioned and rebuked.”

This isn’t the first time Reid and Mystal have made headlines together. During a segment of her now-defunct MSNBC show last fall, the former agreed heartily with the latter that Trump’s supporters are “are just as despicable” as he is.

“I mean, everything he [Trump] does is despicable,” said Mystal at the time. “The reason why it doesn’t end his career is because his supporters are just as despicable.”

“Yeah, and they also — he hates the people they hate,” affirmed Reid moments later.
