Whoopi Goldberg Stuns By Announcing MTG Will Appear On The View As She Defies Trump On Shutdown

The View host Whoopi Goldberg made the stunning announcement that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) will appear on the show amid a government shutdown that has prompted her to defy President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Rep. Greene has long been an outspoken ally and booster of President Trump, but the government shutdown has seen her take her own party to task on the issue of health care. Trump and the Republicans have refused to negotiate on Obamacare subsidies unless Democrats first vote to reopen the government by passing a continuing resolution that does not include the subsidies. The shutdown is in its 29th day.

The Georgia congresswoman has also broken with Trump on a number of other issues. The schism began when the Epstein Files issue erupted, thanks in no small part to Greene.

On Wednesday’s edition of ABC’s The View. Goldberg wrapped up a discussion of the ongoing shutdown by telling the audience that the show — not usually friendly ground for conservatives — would be welcoming Greene next Tuesday:

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: People in Washington are starting to say, my constituents, you know, they’re starting to remember why they’re there.

SUNNY HOSTIN: Yeah.

Because you don’t get there without people putting you there and remembering–.

SUNNY HOSTIN: Yeah.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: –that those same people can pull you out of there. And that’s why when you said, Marjorie Taylor Greene–.

SARAH HAINES: Oh yeah.

I’m happy to say that she’s going to be here on Tuesday.

UNIDENTIFIED: Oh!

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Because–

JOY BEHAR: It’s election day. It happens to be election day.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: I don’t know how many things we agree on but I know the one thing that she and I and all of us at this table agree on is this should not be affecting the American people.
