FBI Investigating Whether Clinton’s Aides Mishandled Classified Information

Hillary ClintonThe FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server has taken yet another turn, with The New York Times reporting on its front page Friday that Clinton aides are now being investigated for sending her classified information.

At least one email sent by top aide Huma Abedin in 2011 contained information about the deteriorating situation in Libya. Another email from an aide detailed the Libyan military’s movements in the middle of that country’s civil war. Two other emails, as previously reported on by the Times, contained information about North Korea’s nuclear program and drone strikes in Pakistan which officials say should have been classified ‘Top Secret’ at the time they were sent.

The FBI continues to maintain that Clinton is not a target of their investigation. However, according to the Times, they are investigating “whether her aides or other State Department officials broke federal rules or laws when they sent her information.”

The Clinton campaign responded to the news with a short statement: “She and her team took the handling of classified information very seriously, and at home and abroad she communicated with others via secure phone, cable, and in meetings in secure settings.”
