Jasmine Crockett Denies There Is ‘A Lot’ Of Fraud and Abuse in Government Spending As She Puts Debt On Trump’s Shoulders
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) denied that there is “a lot of waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government” while blaming President Donald Trump and Republicans for the nation’s debt.
Crockett joined The Breakfast Club on Friday and blasted Trump and Elon Musk’s plan for slashing federal government spending. She also said “less educated” voters typically vote Republican and that she’s “rooting for” Canada and Mexico as Trump is threatening both with tariffs.
“There is a lot of waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government,” host Charlamagne Tha God said during a discussion about Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and the massive layoffs and cuts they have been recommending.
At CPAC, Musk showed up with a literal chainsaw he said was meant for “bureaucracy” and he touted that billions in “expenditures” could be cut within an hour in D.C. spending if you’re just willing to cut the budget.
“I’m not going to say that there’s a lot — I’m going to say that it does exist,” Crockett pushed back. “I’m going to say that it exists. I don’t think that there’s a lot.”
Musk accused politicians of lacking “empathy” for taxpayers, saying at CPAC, “It just shows that they really lack empathy for the average taxpayer who’s working hard, paying taxes. Then they say, ‘Oh, a million dollars doesn’t matter.’ I’m like, ‘I think it matters a lot to people, you know?'”
Charlamagne asked how the country could acquire $36 trillion in debt without there being “waste” in spending, and Crockett blamed all national debt on tax cuts, saying Trump cutting taxes in his first term means the government doesn’t have enough income coming in to cover its costs. She also argued most “waste” can be found in spending not as closely audited, like through the Pentagon.
“We’re in debt because we decided that we’re going to reduce the income, right? So under Trump, in his first administration, we went into debt $8 trillion,” she said. “Now, he wanted to say it was because of COVID — it really wasn’t.”
Crockett argued Trump built the debt by cutting the taxes of “one percenters.”
