Sean Hannity Fires Back at John Oliver After Recent Criticism: ‘He’s Not Funny,’ Doesn’t Know ‘Facts or Truths’

Fox News anchor Sean Hannity responded to John Oliver’s recent criticism that he has inaccurately portrayed the protests in Portland — claiming the late-night host is “not funny” and ignoring facts during SiriusXM’s “Jim Norton & Sam Roberts” radio show.

During Sunday’s Last Week Tonight episode, Oliver blasted Hannity for misrepresenting the Portland protests as “the end of America as we know it,” and played a clip of a reporter explaining that the chaos being broadcasted was exclusive to one city block.

The host later noted that those on the ground had reported less confrontation in Portland before the federal agents, deployed by President Donald Trump, showed up and faulted news reporters and the Trump administration for misrepresenting the protests.

“Well, John Oliver, number one, he’s got a couple of problems. I didn’t see it. I read about it. I saw the headline on Mediaite,” Hannity told Jim Norton and Sam Roberts. “I don’t spend a lot of time watching comments that people make about me because I actually have a life and have better things to do. If I want to feel bad I could always Google my name and then find out that I’m the second coming of the devil. I don’t live my life too concerned about what John Oliver thinks. His big problem is he’s not funny. If you’re funny, I don’t care what you say. Be funny about it.”

Hannity then complained that all late-night shows have gotten less funny amid the coronavirus pandemic — noting that they’ve become too political for comedy shows.

“Well look, I don’t know what to say, there’s been 61 days of rioting, we have, let’s see, nearly 2,000 cops around the country now that have been injured, some of them severely,” Hannity added. “We have cops now who have been blinded permanently, it looks like, because of lasers being pushed in their eyes in cities like Portland and Seattle.”

Hannity continued to detail chaos and violence in U.S. cities amid the Black Lives Matter protests, urging listeners to see the footage for themselves and claiming that pushing the idea of peace are “lying through their teeth.”

“I don’t expect John Oliver to know facts or truths, and I’m sure he’ll selectively pick out, ‘Well these are the peaceful protesters,’ and ignore the rocks, the bottles, the bricks, the Molotov cocktails, the gunshots, the fireworks, and everything else being hurled at officers across the country,” Hannity added, ironically focusing on one form of protest while overlooking the other.

Hannity then went after calls to “defund the police” and claimed that it overlooks the reality that “anarchists are taking over the city.”
