Trump Waxes Poetic On Religion And Getting Into Heaven: ‘There Has to be Some Kind of a Report Card’
President Donald Trump waxes poetic about getting into heaven once again and questioned how any evangelical could not vote for him.
Trump joined Todd Starnes on his radio show on Thursday where Starnes noted Trump’s recent comments on heaven and his “support” of religion. The president launched into a rant against former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and on “report cards” potentially awaiting us all in the afterlife.
Trump said:
I just do it because I know it’s true. If you look around, I mean people of faith, there’s a feeling they want to be good. You know they get punished if they’re not good, right? If you don’t think about that, if you’re not a believer, and you believe you go nowhere, what’s the reason to be good, really? There has to be some kind of a report card up there someplace, you know, like, let’s go to heaven, let’s get into heaven, and it’s sort of a beautiful thing. Look, religion was the backbone of our country, it’s much less so now, but it’s getting much stronger under me.
The president questioned how even a minority of evangelical voters could choose not to support him, bringing up Covid-19 shutdown restrictions for churches as a reason religious voters should have totally embraced him. Trump insisted that religion is making a comeback in the country under his presidency.
He argued:
It was terrible under Biden. I was so amazed. You know, I won the evangelicals by like 88%, but I was trying to figure out who are the other 12 %. How could they vote for her? You know, I mean, she was so pathetic and Biden, you know, it’s a combination, what was worse than the other? Why do they do that? It’s like, you can’t imagine them wanting to do that. And you saw what they did to you. They were closing churches, even if the people went outside and they were 10 feet apart. They were going in and raiding them, and, you know, treating them like prisoners, like, you know, like horrible people and they’re great people. They were the backbone of this country and they still are, but they were dwindling, but, I’m telling you, that religion’s coming back. And religion brings our country together. All religions. A lot of religions. I mean, some are — some I could question, I guess, if I’m being honest with you. A little rough philosophy there, but religion brings our country together and it’s a great thing. It’s a great thing, and we have to bring it back stronger, and it has made tremendous inroads.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump cited his attempts at negotiating a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine as one of his efforts to get into heaven. He joked that he’s heard he’s “at the bottom of the totem pole.”
“I want to try and get to heaven if possible, I’m hearing I’m not doing well. I hear I’m really at the bottom of the totem pole,” he said. “But if can get to Heaven, this will be one of the reasons.”
