WATCH: Colorado Student Pinned Under Goal Post During Wild Team Celebration
A victory celebration in Colorado took a bad turn as fans rushed the field, with one fan found himself pinned under a goal post.
The Colorado Buffaloes, led by Deion Sanders, beat the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday 24-17, and fans at Folsom Field were ecstatic. Video showed fans rushing the field, but as they did one fan was pinned under a falling goal post.
The fan cried out for help as people kept rushing the field. The fan was eventually helped and managed to get out and return to the celebration. Fox & Friends aired the footage on Wednesday morning, with Carley Shimkus reporting.
“Wow, that’s the bad part about celebrating,” Brian Kilmeade joked after watching the footage.
Fans storming the field after a game has been met with mixed reactions from the conference, but Sanders told reporters after the game that he “loved” seeing the celebrations.
“Is it a fine? Come on, man. That ain’t right. I want to see the kids rush the field. I absolutely love it,” he said.
The Colorado Buffaloes already faced a $50,000 fine last month over derogatory chants against BYU Cougars fans.
Sanders added after Saturday’s victory, “I mean, hats off to our security team. They do a good job ushering me in [to the locker room]. But I love to see it. I really do.”
Sanders was shocked at the news that the Big 12 conference could hit his team with another $50,000 for fans rushing the field.
“How is it $50,000 for rushing the field?” he said. “Wow. Shoot. I’m sorry. Wow, 50 grand.”
Sanders said the goal post was lowered so fans would not attempt to steal it.
“What are you going to do with the field goal if you take it down anyway? What are you going to do with it?” he said. “Put it in your front yard? Your frat house? Then you’re telling on yourself. I don’t understand that, but I love it.”
Colorado received a $25,000 fine last year over fans rushing the field during a win against Baylor.
