‘You Can Apply for the Job!’ Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Absolutely LOSES IT On a Fan Who Called Him Out for His Mediocre Record
Amid a disappointing season, Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney on Monday went off on a radio caller for questioning his salary.
In September 2022, Swinney signed the largest contract for a coach in college football history. The two-time national champion agreed to the 11-year, $115 million deal to remain with the program through the 2031 season.
Just a few years removed from its last national championship, the team has not looked like the contender fans have grown accustomed to. As of Tuesday, the Tigers sit at 4-4 and 10th in the ACC.
During Monday’s episode of the Tiger Calls radio show, a man who simply identified himself as Tyler called in to express his frustration with the team this season. He even went as far as asking Swinney why he’s being paid so much money if this is the result.
After letting Tyler criticize him for a little over two minute, Swinney cut him off to let him hear it.
“We won 11 games last year, and you’re part of the problem, to be honest with you” Swinney said, “because that is part of the problem. It’s people like you… The expectation is greater than the appreciation, and that’s the problem.
“We’ve won 12 10-plus-win seasons in a row. That’s happened three times in 150 years… Clemson ain’t sniff a national championship for 35 years. We’ve won two in seven years, and there’s only two other teams that can say that: Georgia and Alabama. Is this a bad year? Yeah, and it’s my responsibility. I take 100% responsibility for it. But all this bull-crap you’re thinking and all these narratives you read… Listen man, you can have your opinion all you want, and you can apply for the job and good luck to you.”
Swinney continued to rattle off more stats proving that Clemson has been one of the most successful programs in recent years. He also continued to accuse Tyler and fans like him of not being appreciative of Swinney’s tenure just because of a bad year.
“I started as the lowest-paid coach in this freaking business,” Swinney said. “And I’m where I am because I’ve worked my ass off every single day, and I ain’t gonna let some smart-ass kid get on this phone and create this stuff. So, if you got a problem with that, I don’t care.
“I work for the board of trustees, the president, and the AD; and if they’re tired of me leading this program, all they gotta do is let me know. I’ll go somewhere else where there is an appreciation.”
