Let’s just say that former Fox News star Megyn Kelly’s first week as a morning show host at NBC has been a bit of a mixed bag.
After the debut of Megyn Kelly Today pulled in a decent but underwhelming 2.93 million viewers on Monday the ratings quickly slid downhill from there, following a similar path as Kelly’s NBC Sunday night news magazine show earlier this year.
Finding an audience isn’t the only problem Kelly’s facing right out the gate. Early on, her celebrity interviews have created some rather awkward moments. Debra Messing of Will and Grace said she regretted going on Kelly’s show after the fact. And I’m sure Kelly would just like to forget her pressing Jane Fonda on plastic surgery.
At the end of this morning’s show, Kelly concluded her first week by doing what comes naturally — she took a shot at the media for not digging her program.
“I just want to take a moment to thank all of you for watching this week,” she told the audience. “It has been educational. I’ve just been so delighted that the media response which has really been — NO! — the viewer response has been awesome. And I’m so grateful to have all of you giving us a chance.”
