Chris Cuomo Confronts Tucker Carlson Over Jan. 6 Footage He Aired: ‘You Cherry-Picked That’
NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo confronted ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson over his stance on January 6th riots and his use of the security footage at the Capitol, in an interview premiering this week on [CUOMO] — Carlson’s first national news interview since being fired from Fox.
A year ago, then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) exclusively provided Carlson 44,000 hours of security video from the deadly riot. Carlson then used the tapes to portray the riot as a peaceful gathering on his then-nightly program Tucker Carlson Tonight.
Carlson was out at Fox News after the network’s settlement with Dominion Voting over defamation.
The former Fox host turned Twitter/X podcaster sat down with Cuomo for the interview, announced last week, to discuss a wide range of topic, including the issues surrounding January 6 and Donald Trump.
CUOMO: January 6th, I know people will say it was an insurrection. People will say okay, fine, he wasn’t charged with that and there was a reason he wasn’t charged with that. It’s not a technicality. And your approach and the approach of other people, hey this was just, you know, these guys were in the wrong place, the wrong way, but that’s all it was. I don’t agree with that. I think it was a riot. And I think they were way over the line, and I think they were motivated to go over the line, in part by the President of the United States.
CARLSON: Parts of it obviously were a riot but let me ask you a couple questions, one is, why can’t we know how many federal agents were in the crowd and what they were doing there?
CUOMO: I am fine with knowing. I love transparency. It is the key to understanding.
CARLSON: It is the opposite to what we have, and there are thousands of hours of tape and the release of which will not jeopardize the security in the Capitol.
CUOMO: You cherry-picked that tape by the way.
CARLSON: I aired what they sent me.
CUOMO: You cherry-picked it though.
The first part of the interview is set to air tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET.
