Chris Matthews Claims Trump Has ‘Started a Trade War That We’re Going to Lose’ While Dems Are ‘Anemic’: ‘It Isn’t Going to Be Great!’
Charis Matthews claimed President Donald Trump has launched the country into a trade war that it is “going to lose,” and argued that “anemic” Democrats aren’t offering much of a fight against his plans on Tuesday.
Matthews, a former MSNBC host, joined Tuesday’s edition of Morning Joe and blasted the president for hitting countries like Canada and Mexico with major tariffs. Matthews argued the trade war and concerns over cuts recommended by Elon Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) could offer “anemic” Democrats an opportunity to take back the House of Representatives.
Matthews argued faithful supporters of Trump are putting blind faith in his trade war plan and “ignorant” if they believe that market drops are only temporary.
He argued:
I look at Trump and I keep thinking, Trump, oh, the Trump Casino in Atlantic City, that used to be the big casino. When you drove right into Atlantic City, and there was that big casino. It’s gone. The Trump University, it’s gone. Trump shuttle, we haven’t taken that lately, have we? That’s gone. This idea that things will turn out [well] is right out of Chauncey Gardiner in Being There. He’s telling the president, Jack Warren, don’t worry, we’re going to plant in the spring and we’re going to sow in the fall, and everything’s going to be great. It isn’t going to be great! This is a trend line. An economic trend line in the markets. And it’s going to be worse in the next couple of days and worse after that because he has started a trade war that we’re going to lose.”
Matthews also blasted Musk over his claims of widespread fraud in programs like Social Security — including that 160-years-olds are collecting checks — and called on Democrats to push back much harder on these “lies.”
“It’s all wrong, the lies and the history, the ignorance of this crowd is unbelievable. And there are people out there, the MAGA people don’t know any better,” Matthews said.
The former Hardball host added that Democrats are “anemic” when it comes to battling Trump on economic fronts.
“This strange reaction to everything is fine, these grunts they have,” he said. “And the Democrats are absolutely anemic, I’m sorry. Anemic.”
