Chris Matthews On A Michele Bachmann Campaign: ‘I Want Her To Run So Much’
After spending a full segment reviewing the recent misfortunes of Newt Gingrich, Chris Matthews turned his attention to Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, yet surprisingly was much nicer than usual. Despite his guests Joan Walsh and David Corn thinking the “right has more brains” than what Bachmann represents, Matthews admitted “I want her to run [for President] so much.”
Matthews heaped an unusual amount of praise on Bachmann, suggesting she has “pizzazz” and “travels better than Sarah Palin.” Furthermore, Matthews believed that to her credit, “Bachmann is much more on the attack and not playing defense” like Palin. Matthews felt that Bachmann captures the “zest” of the right possibly like no one else, and even Walsh ended up reluctantly agreeing that Bachmann seems to now be “in the mainstream of Republican politics.”
Yet in the end, Matthews revealed there was a reason for his friendlier tone, since he’s actually hopeful that Bachmann will come back to his show for an interview. Given their storied history, if and when that happens, the showdown between the ideologically opposed titans would surely be must-see-TV.
