Chuck Todd: Hillary Clinton’s Email Excuses Are ‘Classic Deflection’
Host of NBC’s Meet the Press and a yet-to-be-revealed MSNBC show Chuck Todd went after Hillary Clinton Friday morning for her “classic deflection” on the issue of her emails.
Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Todd said he was willing to give the State Department the benefit of the doubt for taking so long to release Clinton’s private emails. “At the end of the day, the reason it’s taking a long time is because Hillary Clinton chose to do it out of the norm, out of the way it was done.”
“And she can claim she’s doing the same protocol as Colin Powell, but that was basically a half generation ago in how communications were dealt with,” he said. “So it is a classic deflection and sort of confusing the matter in the moment.
Todd noted that it wasn’t even clear what Clinton’s motivation was for using a private server to begin with. “It’s very possible that her and her political team are paranoid about House Republicans and have been for years, are paranoid about transparency and have been for years, and so they said, ‘We’re going to make this as hard as possible for Congress to sort of poke around our personal affairs…'”
“That is the best reason, that’s a best case scenario,” noted host Mika Bzrezinski.
“And it’s not a good one!” Todd said.
