CNN’s Bash to Boehner: How Do You Expect Obama to Trust You?
House Speaker John Boehner held a press conference today, his first since the sweeping Republican midterm victories. And one of the big issues he tackled was this question of immigration reform and President Barack Obama holding potential executive action over the House’s heads as an incentive (or threat) for them to finally act on immigration.
And Boehner scolded the president, saying he’ll “poison the well” and “when you play with matches, you take the risk of burning yourself, and he’s gonna burn himself if he continues to go down this path.”
CNN’s Dana Bash brought up the fact that Boehner has already called for an Obamacare repeal and asked this question:
“How do you expect the president to trust that you really want to work together, when out of the gate you say you want to repeal his signature law that you know has no chance of getting a veto-proof majority? How do you expect him to trust you?”
Boehner argued, “My job’s not to get along with the president just to get along with him… my job is to listen to my members and the American people and make their priorities our priorities.”
