CNN’s Harry Enten Reports Democrats’ Pride in Being American Has ‘Fallen Through the Floor’: ‘Never Thought I’d See These Numbers!’

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten was shocked to see the number of Democrats who take pride in being American has “fallen through the floor” in the last decade to a record low.

On Friday, Enten, citing Gallup survey data, reported that just 36% of Democrats in 2025 said they are “extremely” or “very” proud to be an American. That number has dropped from 80% in 2015 as President Donald Trump has ascended to the presidency twice in that time.

“That number has plummeted to just 36% now in 2025, a low this century. It’s fallen by more than half since 2015, as Donald Trump has become, of course, president once again this year,” Enten said.

Enten also pointed to younger voters as a major factor driving the specific decline. According to the polling, among those born since 1997, just 24% said they are “extremely” or “very” proud to be an American. The number grew to 32% when these younger voters were asked whether they have “little” or “no” pride at all in being American.

“I just never thought I’d see these numbers based upon where we were a decade ago. But that’s exactly where we are,” Enten said.

By comparison, Republicans have remained relatively unchanged on the point of being proud Americans with 90% saying in 2015 that they were “extremely” or “very” proud. That number grew to 92% in 2025.

“In 2015, it was 90 percent back when [former President] Barack Obama was serving his second term. Now in Donald Trump’s second term, it’s basically the same percentage, 92 percent. So Republicans still are extremely or very proud to be an American,” Enten said. “Democrats, on the other hand, have seen their numbers fall through the floor, led of course by the youngest generation, Generation Z.”
