Conservative Foreign Policy Guru Blasts Trump for Using Kid Gloves With Putin on Fox News

Conservative foreign policy expert Rebeccah Heinrichs took to Fox News this week to criticize President Donald Trump for using kid gloves with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

On Monday, Trump backed off his call for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine after speaking with Putin. He later said that he and the autocrat “had a good talk,” as well as that “progress is being made.”

After host Trace Gallagher asked Heinrichs if she was also “optimistic” that it was a “good talk,” the Hudson Institute senior fellow responded in the negative.

“No, Trace. Actually, I was pretty deflated after I heard the president’s remarks because I was really hopeful that President Trump would impose costs on Putin in order to compel him to finally agree to an unconditional ceasefire, which Ukraine has agreed to — agreed to weeks ago,” answered Heinrichs. “So, Russia continues to stall. And despite President Trump’s optimism, Russia is the one that continues to act aggressively against Ukraine. President Trump thankfully has still said there’s other things that he’s left on table: imposing biting sanctions against energy and banking. But until President Trump really decides to get tough on Putin, I don’t see Putin deciding that he’s going to end this conflict, which he started.”

Trump repeatedly insisted that he would end the war between Russian and Ukraine on the first day of his presidency while on the campaign trail last year. Earlier this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky abruptly left the White House after the president and Vice President JD Vance took turns berating him in the Oval Office.

According to Axios, Zelensky “was happy” when Trump called to consult him prior to speaking with Putin, but felt that a subsequent call with the U.S. president, after the Trump-Putin call, was “bad.”
