Ed Henry Grills Earnest: Will WH Quarantine Troops Returning from Fighting Ebola?
The national conversation about Ebola continues, as White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest faced a grilling today from Ed Henry over the White House not having a concrete plan for the troops who are being sent into Ebola-ridden nations to help combat the virus. Henry assumed that troops in these nations would be quarantined for 21 days, and asked Earnest if that would be the case.
Earnest said policy on that is decided by the Pentagon, but Henry repeatedly pushed him on what the White House believes. He said it sounds like the administration just sent troops “into the hot zone without a policy” and asked, “How could that not have been decided before?”
Earnest downplayed potential risks to troops helping the fight against Ebola, saying that 1) they won’t really be treating patients directly, and 2) a “vast majority” of them will be working from neighboring nations where Ebola is not a dire problem.
