Ex-Clinton Campaign Chair John Podesta Goes After Comey: ‘Arrogance’ Led Him to Make a ‘Very Bad Error’

Hillary Clinton‘s former Campaign Chair John Podesta isn’t over Clinton’s 2016 election loss. And not surprisingly, he’s pinning the blame on former FBI Director James Comey.

“I’ve never attacked Mr. Comey for trying to do something that was for a partisan reason,” Podesta said to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, referring to Comey’s infamous investigation of Clinton’s emails. “I think it was, to some extent, his arrogance that led him to make a very bad error of judgment.”

Podesta emphasized the impact he felt was suffered by the Clinton campaign, adding that Comey “was an idiot in the context of this election and it was influential in the outcome, and now we have someone who, as he said, is morally unfit to be president of the United States.”

On Tuesday, Comey’s book, A Higher Loyalty, was released, detailing his time in President Donald Trump‘s administration. Podesta’s remarks to Blitzer were in response to Comey’s self-deprecating statement that Clinton, if she were to read the book, would believe him to be “an idiot” but “kind of an honest idiot.”

“As it turned out, at the end of the investigation, he said there is no reason a prosecutor would find this to be a criminal matter,” Podesta said. “We kept saying it was a security review. Lo and behold, if you look back to his statement on July 5th when he finally announced his decision, he said, you know, this matter belongs in the security review box. I think he’s throwing shade on everybody but accepting very little responsibility himself.”

Podesta said he will probably not read Comey’s book, nor does he expect Clinton to read it.
