Ex-GOP Rep. Blasts ‘Manchild’ Trump: ‘No Amount of Fred Trump’s Money’ Can Buy Him the Honor or Integrity of John McCain

After President Donald Trump launched another day of complaining about and attacking the late Senator John McCain, on MSNBC’s Deadline, host and former McCain senior advisor Nicolle Wallace spoke with former Republican and former Congressman David Jolly about the continuing feud with a deceased veteran.

“It’s hard to temper one’s anger,” said Jolly. “It’s disgusting behavior by the President. What we know Donald Trump is he’s intimidated by people whose stature he can never achieve.”

Jolly offered a set of examples. “He attacks the NFL because they would not let him in their ownership group. He attacks the media because they have a trustworthiness that goes far beyond what this president will ever have. He attacks prosecutors and Mueller because there is finality and permanence to their work that will far exceed the president’s fledgling, at times questionable, real estate empire.”

“And on John McCain, Donald Trump simply does not have the ability to obtain the heroism and honor and dignity that we remember the former Arizona Senator for,” he continued. “No amount of Fred Trump’s money can buy for this manchild of a president the honor and the integrity of John McCain. So he acts out.”

He said it just gives more evidence that Trump, who can’t resist being “baited with a tweet” by the spouse of one his advisers, can’t be trusted with the nation’s security.

Wallace remarked that Jolly had given her “a pit in my stomach and lump in my throat.” She questioned the integrity of the GOP for not being able to talk back to Trump.

“I think the Republican Party is acting like a man-children cohorts to this president. They’ve gone out and they’ve huffed and puffed a little bit, but it’s been lame, weak, and pathetic,” said Wallace. “No one has said what you just said, no one has said a fraction of what you said.”

“This isn’t about John McCain’s greatness, he’s great and we all know it,” said Wallace. “This is about the depravity of the United States President.”

Jolly agreed that the GOP does not speak back. “There are a number of United States senators allowing him to do that by not speaking up. They deserve to be held just as accountable as the president because in their silence, Donald Trump is demeaning the nation’s memory of John McCain.

“Let’s be honest, Nicolle, if Donald Trump was not president of the United States, but was a member of the United States Senate, Donald Trump would be less popular among his colleagues than Ted Cruz,” said Jolly. “But the reason these senators are so quiet is because they are fearful of the political consequences of taking a moral act.”

Wallace turned to her panel and asked “Why isn’t there a political price to pay for being a wuss?”

The consensus reply was that there should be.
