Former DOJ Counterintel Chief: Trump ‘is a Clear and Present Danger’ to US National Security

Speaking with Rachel Maddow on Monday night, David Laufman, the former head of the Department of Justice’s Counterintel and Export Control section called President Donald Trump a clear and present danger to national security.

Maddow asked Laufman to explain — in blunt terms — for civilians that are trying to understand, the threat he thought the president of the United States was posing.

“Do you mean in blunt terms that the continuing existence of this presidency is a threat to the national security of the United States? Do you think the president is that kind of a threat?” she asked.

Laufman replied: “I think there’s a culmination of things we can point to in the public record now, the unbelievable acquiescence to Vladimir Putin in Helsinki that was positively shocking to those of us who worked in the national security all of our lives, all of the many things that you have read in the charging documents, people associated with the president, all those to me point to a reasonable inference — and it’s a painful anguishing thing to acknowledge — that the president of the United States is a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States.”

He then added that is why he issued a call to action in his tweet. That tweet also included the Washington Post article about Trump concealing the accounts of his meetings with Putin even from his own administration officials.
