Fox & Friends Hammer CNN Hosting First Debate Because They ‘Despise Donald Trump’
The hosts of Fox & Friends ragged at the upcoming CNN presidential debate and its moderators-to-be, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, in a segment on Thursday morning.
“So what bothers me is CNN gets the first debate and what bothers me is Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. They’re very intelligent, smart people, but they despise Donald Trump,” began host Brian Kilmeade. “I mean, we could put together montages that would go on for hours, we’re going to show and show tonight, of just the negative things that they said about him.”
He continued:
Jake Tapper made a unilateral decision not to cover any Trump press conferences. They got a president of CNN fired for simply having a town hall! And they okay, they maneuvered, got a debate because Joe Biden set up a criteria that would eliminate Fox, which is ridiculous. But these guys, I mean, it’s hard enough to win a debate against a sitting president, even though you know the issues so well.
But to have two moderators working against you. And I also think it’s bad to kill the mics because you need that interaction. Because if it’s answer question, answer question, answer question, answer, we can do that anytime. You got to have, you have to have the interaction. Now the interruptions and interactions are different. But I want the free, the give and take where the moderators become part of the woodwork and it becomes about the candidates. There’s a lot of problems with this format.
It is not true that Tapper has made a unilateral decision not to cover any Trump press conferences, although it is the case that he has made a habit of cutting away from Trump while he’s speaking. Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest that Tapper and Bash are responsible for former CNN CEO Chris Licht’s firing, but reports have indicated that Tapper was critical of his leadership.
Fox’s Ainsley Earhardt went on to question Biden’s criteria for debate host outlets — which only included four news organizations, CNN, CBS, ABC, and Telemundo — given that he needs to appeal to independents.
“I’m so glad that you made that point, Ainsley,” chimed in Lawrence Jones. “I mean, just imagine all the scandals that have been covered through this past administration from the border. We were the first one at the border. They shut our drone down. We just went up with the Texas DPS helicopter. No one was covering the border. Remember the moms with the baby formula? They said, ‘Oh, inflation is not a real issue.’ We were the only ones going out there to give those the interviews. The stuff that’s happening on the college campuses, all of these pressing issues for the country, do you think any of these moderators are going to ask about that and be fair to say, ‘Joe Biden, what is your position?”
