Fox & Friends Trashes LeBron James For Criticizing Trump in CNN Interview: ‘So Divisive’
Let’s play a thought experiment:
Star athlete criticizes the President of the United States, the most powerful man in country, for what he sees as divisive rhetoric.
The President, up at 11 p.m. on a Friday night watching CNN, responds by trashing the athlete as dumb in a late night tweet, and calls his CNN interviewer “the dumbest man on television.”
What’s the more important story here?
For Fox & Friends, it was that the athlete dared to weigh in on politics.
“He’s made it clear how he feels about the president quite a while back,” Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Abby Huntsman said.
“You know who I’ve actually respected throughout all of this, is Shaquille O’Neal,” she continued. “He’s pretty much stayed out of it, and if anything he’s just been respectful of the people that served this country. And often times we’ll play clips of things that he says, and you know I admire people that — he speaks his mind, and obviously he can do that, but he doesn’t get in the weeds, and he doesn’t get so divisive.”
“Great point,” Fox News’ Griff Jenkins said.
“Because you don’t want sports to become so political,” she continued. “You want to watch the game, and you want to just relax.”
Jenkins pointed out that while LeBron was “bashing the president and the administration,” Shaq was admirably “doing Shark Week.”
Pete Hegseth noted that LeBron is opening up a school for at-risk youth in Ohio — “a wonderful thing” — but instructed him to “leave it there.”
“He decided to make it about divisiveness in sports,” Hegseth added.
Jenkins concluded the interview by suggesting that LeBron is “speaking out now because he’s going to Los Angeles.”
“It will make him more popular with the folks in California,” Hegseth noted.
