GOP Sen. Ron Johnson Says He’s Undecided on Whether to Support Trump’s Emergency Declaration

President Donald Trump is being supported by many Republicans in his decision to declare a national emergency at the border, but some Republicans aren’t quite on board.
Several Republican senators have made clear they don’t support this move, including Rand Paul, Thom Tillis, Lamar Alexander, and Marco Rubio. House Democrats may pass a joint resolution disapproving of the president’s decision, which would then go to the Senate.
Senator Ron Johnson spoke with Chuck Todd for Sunday’s Meet the Press, and in a clip released today, Todd asked if he would vote to approve or disapprove of the emergency declaration.
Johnson said he’s undecided:

“I’m going to take a look at the case the president makes, and I’m also going to take a look at how quickly this money is actually going to be spent versus what he’s going to use. If he’s not going to be spending it this fiscal year or very early in the next fiscal year, I would have my doubts. So again, I’m going to take a look at it and… I’ll decide when I actually have to vote on it.”
Todd asked Johnson if he shares the concerns of some Republican colleagues that this sets a precedent for future Democratic presidents. Johnson said he does “share those concerns,” before emphasizing that Trump is trying to “keep this nation safe and secure.”
