Huckabee: Obama ‘Has a Wonderful Voice’ but Eulogy Too Political

Right before George Stephanopoulos ended his interview with Mike Huckabee Sunday morning, the This Week host and ABC correspondent asked the 2016 GOP presidential candidate what he thought about President Barack Obama‘s eulogy for slain South Carolina pastor and state senator Clementa Pinckney.

Huckabee gave a brief but thoughtful, if not informed, review of the president’s abilities as a pulpit eulogizer — especially when it came to his singing:

Well, I think so much of it was brilliant. And by the way he has a wonderful voice, so post-presidential — I see a recording contract in his future

However, the former Arkansas governor didn’t take to kindly to what he perceived as Obama’s “political agenda”:

You know, there were times when I think he strayed into more of a political agenda rather than a true eulogy. I presided at a lot of funerals 30 years ago and before, and I never used it as an occasion to do anything other than to focus on the person and the qualities of that person who was deceased, and not to make it a time of cause.
